Dr Parker graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine in 1984 from the University of Queensland Medical School. As a medical student he also represented Australia in Rugby, playing for both the Wallabies and the Queensland Reds. Dr Parker received his Fellowship in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck surgery after completing his training in Queensland when he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1993.
After obtaining his Fellowship, Dr Parker then spent a year working overseas at the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin as a Senior Registrar and Clinical Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
On returning to Australia, Dr Parker worked at the Royal Children’s, Mater Children’s and Mater Adult’s Hospitals. He is now in private practice whilst also practicing in the public health system as a Senior Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) at the Mater Public Hospital Complex (Adult’s) and the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Dr Parker’s special interest includes Cochlear Implant Surgery, Deafness and management of deafness. Paediatric ENT represents a large part of his practice. He also has an interest in general ENT. He has an association with the “Hear and Say” Centre, the Mater “Cochlear Implant Clinic” and the “Neurosensory” Audiological group. Currently Dr Parker is Clinical Medical Lead of the State Wide Paediatric Hearing Implant Services based at Queensland Children’s Hospital. (Bone Anchored hearing aides – BAHA, Bonebridge, Ponto).
Dr Parker consults and operates and the following hospitals:
- Mater Private Hospital (Adult’s and Children’s)
- Wesley Hospital
- Ramsay Hospital Greenslopes
- Mater Hospital (Public and Intermediate)
- Queensland Children’s Hospital (Public and Intermediate)
Dr Parker is also a former Head of the Mater Hospital ENT Department, Mater Cochlear Implant Centre and ENT Training Supervisor. He was formerly on the Mater Children’s Hospital Medical Advisory Committee.
Dr Parker is currently on the Wesley Medical Advisory Committee and is Chairman of the Wesley ENT Speciality Group.
Currently Dr Parker is a member of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (ASOHNS). He is also on the Board of Neurosensory, a leading Audiology and Cochlear Implant Service.
